. Bob Bressler stopped by to drop off his wine that I ordered. So naturally I was psyched. He told me to drink his '02s and hang on to his '01s. As always, Bob knows best. He seemed in a bit of a hurry. The last time he stopped by he spent four hours unplugging my TV, TiVo, DVD, VCR, Comcast box, and the rest of the alphabets and plugging them back in. I guess he didn't want to get stuck fixing another one of my fine messes. It's spring and baseball season. The Karl Lawrence team held it's season opening BBQ in our backyard this week. Here's to good times and a good season. I think Michael was inside tending to Sophia. Saturday, May 13, 2006 . Happy Mother's Day weekend to all those who conform to the necessary requirements and are also deserving. I've been blessed that my mother was able to move a couple blocks from me this last summer. I sure had a lot of people stop by lately. Ends up, they were all going to, or coming from, some big shindig at Mark Neals place. Sounds like a good time was had by all and that we share many people in common. You know what they say about birds that flock together. As many of you already know; we're sold out of most everything. I've had a number of panic contacts this week as people have lost out on splits, large format bottles, and the Aldin Red and Aldin Chardonnay. I still do have 750s and mags left. These are now on a first come basis and will also be made available to people on our wait list. As so little is left, I will not send out an offering letter, for the unclaimed wine, to the wait list people, as I have in the past. Therefore, wait list people, please email, fax, or call me with your orders. . Tuesday, May 09, 2006 . Unfortunately, our Kentucky Derby jockey, Alex Solis, drew the 18th gate. He and his horse, Brother Derek, made a gallent effort from there and came in fourth. CBS did do a nice background profile of him. Here's to next year. Michael will be making two public appearance in Southern California this week in his capacity as President and Winemaker for Sequoia Grove. You're all invited to attend. On Thursday, the 10th, he'll serve wine at the Maritage Wine Market and Tasting Room in Encinitas (760/479-2500), from 6 to 7:30 PM. On Thursday evening, the 11th, he'll be hosted by Anthony Dias Blue, at a dinner at Chinois on Main (310/392-9025), in Santa Monica. You can call the restaurant directly at 310/392-9025, if you wish to attend. ![]() Chris Madrigal & Elizabeth Naylor On your next visit to the Napa Valley, I suggest that you stop by and visit Michael's better three/quarters (that's more than half), Elizabeth Naylor. She, and Chris Madrigal have partnered together to create the Two Wives Wine Company. Right now they're distributing a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Michael says that the wine "exhibits floral and citrus aromas with hints of grapefruit, lime, and melon." He says that it is a "totally refreshing" wine and gives it two thumbs up. Although, I did have trouble counting his second thumb as his arm was twisted behind his back. You can check out the Two Wives web site at: www.twowives.net. . Watch the Kentucky Derby today. Alex Solis, a Karl Lawrence person, will be riding the favorite. . Thursday, May 04, 2006 . We're sold out of splits and chardonnay and we only have a few bottles left of the silk-screened 750s. The large format bottles that were let go are being reasigned. The Aldin Red Table Wine is also near the end. I can see a stack of orders on the fax machine and I see a stack of unopened envelopes. Unfortunately, we won't be able to satisfy any of these orders asking for these types of wine and bottles. We still have 750s and mags left and will continue to distribute those on a first come basis. Thank you all for helping to make this a pretty smooth season. I will be pouring Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon and Aldin Chardonnay at the Best of Damah Awards Reception, Sunday night, May 21, at The Culver Studios, 9336 West Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. The Awards Ceremony is the final activity for the 5th Annual Damah Film Festival. The Gala will be down the street at The Mann Theaters, and the After Party (where I'll be pouring), will be at the Festival Headquarters at The Culver Hotel (also nearby). My friend, Katherine MaKinney, runs this festival. I used to be in her screenwriting group when she lived up here in San Francisco. You can check out the film festival at www.damah.com. Hope to see a bunch of you all there. . Monday, May 01, 2006 . A number of you have asked me why I haven't been as able to keep you all as informed, lately. Well. I've been pretty busy working to get your wine to you. It's pretty hard to keep you all informed as to what's happening around here doing this time of year. I do understand your need to know, though, and will do a better job. So now, on this glorious May Day, when many businesses in our town are closed down (I had to bring granola bars with me for lunch), I'll do a little catching up. ![]() Dave & Shirlee Goodgame Show Off Great Barrier Reef Pictures Dave's my collge rommate from my year in England. As usual, he and Shirlee showed up pretty much unannounced, thereby, crashing in on Doug and Lila's picnic. As happens at most Karl Lawrence gatherings, they became fast friends and may go yachting together. You can check them out at www.hitchikersailing.bravehost.com. . |
