The office will pretty much be closed down for the summer. I'm off to Thailand for a while as the chaparone for the St. Helena High School art class tour. The students are already wondering who will watch who. Michael will be in Colorado quite a bit. Jefferson will be here but mostly working with distributors. He will be checking in on phone messages from time to time. However, it's always best to use email as that eliminates phone tag games. Also, Jefferson will be better able to access and respond remotely. He told me last night that we're now out of 750s. So that just leaves a few mags left for those of you who want them. I'll try to check in a few times during the summer.

Four of the Five Reason I Try to Work as Little as Possible

I'm getting a little tired of all of you jumping out of your cars, limos, what have you and saying, "you cut your hair." So I thought I'd post a more updated shot so my first appearnce won't be so shocking to you. Cheryl took this picture a couple of weeks ago at our niece's 8th grade graduation, up in Placerville. That's Jefferson on the left, then Nicholas, I'm holding my graddaugther, Zoey, and then there's Lissa. She tells me that she has another one on the way.

If anyone's in the area this coming weekend, there are two events you may want to consider. On Saturday, Bob Torres, of Trincero Family, sponsors a golf tournament at Hidden Valley Lakes, in Middletown. This is a very low-key locals event, called the Buck Open. Buck went to high school here and worked at Sutter Home. He was the best shortstop in our softball league and played on Sutter Home's team. He died of a genetic heart defect, leaving his wife and two young children. We've been playing the Buck Open for five years now, with all the proceeds going to his family. Just give Sutter Home a call and ask for Bob if you'd like to participate. Cheryl and I will play again with Chuck and Lorie Gagetta.
Then on Sunday, Father's Day, I'll be at 16th Annual Father's Day Invitational Auto Show at Vintage 1870, in Yountville. It'll be the first time that I'm showing my 1936 Buik Roadmaster. I'll be pouring some Karl Lawrence, for those interested. Hope to see a few of you out there.

King King Club

This picture is from last December when Pam Starr and I poured at the King King Club in Hollywood. Norm is a big fan of Pams, and Dennis is a big fan of Karl Lawrence, and Pams. He's a lawyer by day and a partner in owning the King King Club, by night. He put on a great event that was quite differnet from most customary wine tastings. You might give his club a try. It was a great place.

It's getting close to the 2004 bottleing. Since the splits and Aldin Red Table Wine were the first to go, we're thinking of making more of those. Please email me your thoughts on this when you have a chance.
Here's the Karl Lawrence Cellars Los Perros Bravos 2006 Softball Season's team picture. We just held the best team in the league to under 30 runs (23) for the first time in three years, and we scored a high of 8 (on them). So as you can tell, we're pretty stoked.

I'm standing with the K (of KL) on my sleeve facing the camera. I have my hand on the shoulder of our pitcher, Nick. I'm his catcher. Later we had a BBQ at our house as a goodbye to Nick. He's leaving his post as head of the cheese department at Dean and DeLucca and heading to Portland. He has a new baby. In Portland he can buy a house "with two cats and a yard." It's getting harder and harder for working people (our children) to remain in St. Helena unless your willing to live two or three families to a house. St. Helena's transforming into a town of second or third (or fourth for that matter) of weekend homes for those who can afford it. It's kind of sad as our families, the softball league, mom, and apple pie are all what living in a small town is about.

Here it is 6/6/6 and I'm sitting in one of the highest (second story) and oldest (1865) buildings in St. Helena. It takes a lot of courage these days to make sure that you all get your wine and wine information.

We survived another Napa Valley Wine Auction. We're continuing down the path were we're becoming merely a setting for outsiders to stage events for outsiders. Once again I sat on my porch and toasted people as they parked cars on our street and walked around the corner to the mag party at Tra Vigne's.

Earlier I noted that Douglas and Lila McMillan celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary here. He emailed me to correct it to 47th. So noted and corrected. Congrats in either case.

Michael will be on the road again. He'll be wearing both the Karl Lawrence Cellars and Sequoia Grove Winery hats this time at a dinner at Serratto Restaurant, in Portland, Oregon, Wednesday, June 21 at 6:30 PM. For reservations, you can contact Janet Bernards at 503/524-7200, or jkbernards@ccim.net. She asks that your respond by June 15.

For those keeping score, the Karl Lawrence Softball team won this past week. That brings our record up to 1 and 5. We hope to improve on that during the second half of the season.
