My bad. I said every shipment south of the extended Mason-Dixon Line would cease this week. However, Jefferson checked with DDC and they said that most shipments would be okay and that only SoCal was going to be bad. So quite a number of shipments did go out this week.
I've instituted a new policy regarding the large format bottles; the three and six litre ones. We process orders in weekly batches. In the past, when you requested a large bottle, we'd hold you in a hold stack and then at the end of the season, would compare your seniority with the other large bottle requesters. This produced extra phone tags and missed communictions. It ended up taking a lot of time and caused shipments to occur during warmer temps.
So for this year, we're trying the new system of awarding the requested large bottles that are given up during that batch. It will still go by seniority, but the seniority of that batch. In this manner, the order can still be processed that week and then shipment go out the next week, while the weather is still cooler. As always, we'll listen to your requests and comments and see how this system works.
It looks like I'm going to be in CO a lot more than usual. I just returned from two days in Boulder with my son, Nicholas. He's decided to go there as an entering Freshman this fall. So I'll give a shout out to those of you in the area the next time I'm there.

Just when I think I have things figured out, mother nature throws a curve. I hear it's going to be 90 + from LA to Miami all next week. So all shipping south of the Mason-Dixon (i.e. that line that historically goes from somewhere in Virginia and Maryland all the way out to San Fancisco) will be held up next week. So much for trying to ship during the winter. Will all those of you who still insist on using aerisol hairspray; please stop. You're messing up wine shipping.

Just letting you know that Michael will be in the Washington D.C. area this weekend. On Friday he'll be pouring Karl Lawrence at the MacArthur Beverage's 22nd Annual California Barrel Tasting. This is a charity event for the Addy and Bruce Bassin Memorial Cancer Research Fund. Forty-seven wineries will attned and barrel taste the 2005 vintage.
Then on Saturday, March 10, Michael attend two separate tastings at 1-3 PM and 7-9 PM. Molly Hill, Sequoia Grove's Associate Winemaker, will also be present pouring Sequoia Grove. These events cost $150. You can sign up at www.bassins.com or call 866/674-3716. If one of you attends, please take a picture of Michael and you and email it to me. Michael's pretty bad about returning with pictures for me to use.
On the 10th, Cheryl and I will also be at the St. Helena Rotary Winter Ball at the Trinchero Family Estates. Our 2003 Reserves are one of the lots. I just found out that my soon to be father-inlaw of Jefferson, also donated a case of Karl Lawrence that will be in a lot of an entire locker of cases of wine.
