2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

No fires. No smoke taint. The Napa Valley Vintners said that the “Joy is back” for the 2021 growing season. The drought continued, yielding smaller berries and harvest.

Karl Lawrence winemaker, Bruce Devlin, says that this 2021 vintage “shows a soft entry with a robust mid pallet. The tannins are aggressive at first but soften toward velvet and a very long finish.”

Sourced from the Pocai Vineyard, Karl Lawrence’s 2021 vintage is 81.6% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 7.68% Cabernet Franc, 5.54% Malbec, and 5.17% Petit Verdot.

2019 HBR Merlot

Like most other vineyards in the Napa Valley, smoke from the LNU Lightning Complex and Glass fires damaged our grapes from the Pocai Vineyard. So, for the 2020 vintage, we decided not to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fortunately, Ric’s nephew, Mike Henry, made some 2019 Merlot from Henry Brothers’ Ranch which turned out to be our family’s last vintage. We blended 4% Pocai Vineyard 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon with Mike’s HBR Merlot for Karl Lawrence’s first ever Merlot offering.

Of the final blend, Mike says “Bold and soft. Spicy black pepper at the end. Long, juicy structure. Round and fun to drink now but can age for a very long time.”

Sourced from the Pocai Vineyard, Karl Lawrence’s 2019 vintage is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 6% Petit Verdot, 2% Petite Sirah, and 1% each of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Retail rates remain at

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon

Our winemaker, Bruce Devlin, likens our 2018 cab to a “warm fresh flaky pie” with “vanilla and pastry like oak qualities.” The Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perotti-Brown states that this wine “delivers decadently ripe” dark fruits and is “full-bodied and super concentrated.” In a word, Bruce describes it as “opulent.”

Sourced from the Pocai Vineyard, Karl Lawrence’s 2018 vintage is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 5% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Sirah.
